National Merit Eligibility for International Students

PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying assessment for the National Merit Scholarship Program, but taking the test does not by itself establish eligibility. Citizenship, residency, schooling and program-entry requirements are controlled by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. UAE families should verify the student’s exact circumstances directly with NMSC before treating scholarship qualification as a preparation goal.

Separate the test from the competition

College Board delivers PSAT/NMSQT, while National Merit Scholarship Corporation manages the scholarship competition. A student may be able to take the test through a UAE school without satisfying every competition-entry condition.

What families should verify

  • The student’s citizenship and residency status.
  • Where and how the student is enrolled in school.
  • The approved year for program entry.
  • Whether alternate-entry or documentation rules apply.
  • Current deadlines published by NMSC.

Responsible preparation goal

If eligibility is uncertain, prepare for PSAT/NMSQT as an SAT Suite baseline first. Do not promise scholarship qualification, a cutoff or recognition based on a short diagnostic or historical state figures.

Authoritative next step

Use National Merit Scholarship Corporation for current eligibility requirements. Anannt can help with test preparation but cannot determine official eligibility.
