Module 1 is the first stage of each section. It contains a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Your performance here determines the difficulty of Module 2 — and whether you can reach a score above 620 per section.
How many did you get correct out of 27 questions?
Cross 18/27 to unlock the harder Module 2 in Reading & Writing.
How many did you get correct out of 22 questions?
Cross 14/22 to unlock the harder Module 2 in Math.
The Digital SAT, administered by the College Board, uses a multistage adaptive testing (MST) format. Each of the two sections — Reading & Writing and Math — consists of two sequential modules. Your Module 1 performance determines the difficulty level of Module 2, which in turn affects your scoring ceiling.
Students routed to the harder Module 2 can earn scores from ~450 to 800 per section (the ~450 floor is guaranteed by the IRT model). Students routed to the easier Module 2 have their section score capped at approximately 620, regardless of how well they perform. This makes Module 1 accuracy the single most critical factor in your Digital SAT strategy.
Raw scores (number of correct answers) are converted to scaled scores using an equating process that accounts for slight differences in difficulty between test forms. This calculator uses conversion tables based on College Board's publicly released practice test data.

Note: The Digital SAT uses an equating process that adjusts scores for test form difficulty. These conversions are approximations based on publicly released scoring data. * Denotes the approximate cap for the easier Module 2 path (~620 per section); the harder Module 2 path guarantees a minimum of ~450 per section. The Digital SAT is scored on a scale of 400-1600, combining two section scores: Reading & Writing (200—800) and Math (200—800). Your raw score (number of correct answers) is converted to a scaled score using the College Board's equating process. The test is adaptive — Module 2 difficulty adjusts based on Module 1 performance, which directly affects your scoring potential.
The Digital SAT uses multistage adaptive testing (MST). Each section has two modules. Your performance on Module 1 determines whether you receive a harder or easier Module 2. Getting routed to the harder module gives you access to higher scores (up to 800, with a guaranteed ~450 floor), while the easier module caps your score at approximately 620 per section.
For Reading & Writing (27 questions), you generally need about 18 correct (roughly 67%) to be routed to the harder Module 2. For Math (22 questions), the threshold is approximately 14 correct (about 64%). These thresholds can vary slightly between test forms.
If you are routed to the easier Module 2, your section score is capped at approximately 620. Even answering every question correctly on the easier module won't push you above this cap. This is why strong Module 1 performance is critical for achieving a competitive score.
For top UAE universities like NYU Abu Dhabi, competitive scores range from 1350—1550. American University of Sharjah (AUS) typically looks for 1100+. For BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, scores of 1200+ are competitive. UAE students scoring above 1300 are generally in the top 15% of test-takers in the region.
Indian students who take the SAT tend to score above the global average, with the mean around 1150. A score of 1400+ places you in the top 5% of Indian SAT takers. For top Indian universities accepting SAT scores — like Ashoka University (1300+), Plaksha (1250+), and Jindal Global (1100+) — strong performance is essential.
No. The Digital SAT has no penalty for incorrect answers. Your raw score is simply the number of questions you answer correctly. You should always answer every question, even if you need to guess — there is no downside to guessing.
This calculator uses scoring models based on publicly available College Board data and official practice test conversions. While actual scores may vary slightly due to the equating process, this tool provides a reliable estimate within 20—30 points of your likely scaled score.
